BLVD Harambee is the community services arm of Church of the Messiah.
Formed in 1994, BLVD Harambee has grown into a community program that focuses on Empowerment, Education, Employment, Enlightenment and Entertainment of young people
in the Islandview community on the East side of Detroit.
The three main programs are the Aim High basketball program, run by Coach Terry Holsten;
the F.I.R.E. Marching Band, run by Joey Donaldson; and the BLVD Empowerment Center, run by Wally Gilbert, which includes the Bike Shop, the Computer Lab, the Screen Press, Employment Center, and Leather Making.
Through job training, mentoring, and crisis counseling, BLVD Harambee is laying the foundations for
college preparation, spiritual formation, and entrepreneurship.
